Submission for the Study on the Use and Impact of Facial Recognition Technology
Résumé analytique
With advances in technology and expanded access to vast datasets, public and private adoption of facial recognition technology (FRT) has proliferated rapidly, despite known risks such as identity-based discrimination and data privacy infringements. Legislators must take action to safeguard Canadians' rights and freedoms.
In this brief, submitted jointly with the Cybersecure Policy Exchange in June 2022, the Centre for Media, Technology and Democracy puts forward recommendations to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics for its study on the use and impact of facial recognition technology.
